Choosing the artwork is often easier than choosing the size.
A print that looks substantial on a product page can feel surprisingly small above a sofa, while an oversized design can overwhelm a narrow hallway. The simplest way to get it right is to choose for the wall rather than for the artwork.
Measure the usable wall area first
Do not measure the entire room. Measure the actual area the print needs to occupy — above a desk, between two door frames, over a bed or within a gallery wall. Leave enough negative space around the artwork so it does not feel squeezed in.
Small prints work best when they have company
A5 and A4 sizes are useful for shelves, desks, small wall sections and multi-print gallery walls. On a large empty wall, one small print can look accidental unless it is deliberately framed with plenty of space.
Medium sizes are flexible
A3 and similar mid-size formats tend to work well in bedrooms, kitchens, home offices and hallways. They are large enough to read as wall art without requiring an especially large room.
Go larger for a focal point
If a print is intended to anchor a living room wall, sit above a sofa or become the main piece in a bedroom, a larger format usually feels more confident. Always check the exact sizes available on the individual product page because not every design is offered in every format.
Remember the frame adds visual size
A framed print occupies more wall space than the paper dimensions alone. Mounts, borders and frame width all add presence. If you already own a frame, choose artwork to fit the frame rather than assuming standard names will match.
Mock it up before ordering
Use masking tape or sheets of paper to mark the proposed size on the wall. Looking at that outline from across the room is often more useful than trying to imagine dimensions from a product listing.
